Israel Presents Plans
for Peaceful Uses of Atom

GENEVA (JTA)—Israel has
presented 20 papers to the Sec-
ond United Nations Internation-
al Conference on the Peaceful
Uses of Atomic Energy, which
is currently being held here.
All of Israel's papers are of a
highly technical nature.
(Israel is also participating in
the 33-nation exploratory meet-
ing on copper which opened in
London on Monday under
United Nations auspices. The
conference, which is meeting in
private, is studying the world
copper market situation and pos-
sible development of new uses
or this metal. Israel is interest-
ed as a producer and exporter
of copper.

Twenty percent of all the pol-
ished diamonds marketed
throughout the world last year
were processed in Israel, ac-
cording to statistics issued here
showing this country's increas-
ing importance as a diamond-
polishing center.
Israel last year exported in
excess of $32,500,000 worth of
diamonds, processed in plants
employing 3,400 polishers. Seven
more diamond-polishing plants
are being established in this
country now.
