—Dr. Alexander Mukdoni-Kap-
pel, well-known Yiddish author,
journalist and critic, died here
Sept. 7 while visiting a son. He
was 81. Funeral services were
held in New York.
Dr. Mukdoni, who was born in
a small town near Minsk, Rus-
sia, and received his degree of
doctor of philosophy in Switzer-

prominent Yiddish literary fig-
ure in Russia, Germany and Po-
land. He came to this country
in 1924, and contributed to many
Yiddish journals and other liter-
ary publications here. He was an
authority on the theatre. In re-
cent years, while contributing to
the Day-Jewish-Morning Journal,
he had been making his home
in Florida.

Max Gelfand Dies at 89;
Active in Beth Tikvah

Max Gelfand, of 23451 Mar-
low, died last Friday at the age
of 89.
Deeply interested in orthodox
Jewish activities, he was especi-
ally active in Congregation Beth
Tikvah, of which he was vice-
president. He was known for
his learning.
Surviving him are a daughter,
Mrs. Irving Siegan; sons, David
of California, Maurice, Jack and
Louis; 13 grandchildren and 19
great-grandchildren.
His wife, Anna (Hinda), died
last January. They were married
63 years.
