Community Artists
in Downtown Festival

Several artists from the corn-
munity are currently partici-
pating in the Art Festival be-
ing sponsored by the Central
Business District Association in
downtown Detroit.
The festival, which is run-
ning simultaneously at Grand
Circus Park, Capital Park and
Cadillac Square, is a Greenwich
Village type of display, in
which the artists display their
paintings on easels or hanging
from clotheslines.
Running through Saturday,
the festival was open to all De-
troit artists, offering them a
chance to display their newest
works.
Among the participants are
Hugo Rodriguez, whose paint-
ing, "Elijah," won the Temple
Israel Purchase Prize at last
year's Sisterhood Art Show;
Arthur C. Danto, a former De-
troiter now of New York,
whose wood engravings have
won many honors; Irving Berg,
local sculptor and teacher, and
Ben Glicker.
Sam Field, director of the
Associated Art School, is chair-
man of the Art Festival, and
Mrs. Seymour Ellman is co-
chairman.
