Beth Israel Final preparations for the technical and mechanical pro- Louis K a s 1 e, president of Beth Israel, in Flint, announces that a full time cantor has been engaged for the first time in the history of this congrega- tion. Unanimously elected to serve Beth Israel is Cantor Jacob E. Tambor of ,Detroit. Cantor Tambor was born in Hungary in 1917. His f at he r, Chazan Abraham Tambor, started his son's liturgical train- ing while the younger Tambor was still in his cradle. Jacob Tambor attended the Hun- garian Yeshiva and at the age of 13 chanted the High Holy Day Services for the first time. He came to this country in 1931 and continued his vocal training under voice authority, '7,---'5MOlefsky, in New Y ork. He received h i s advanced 1 iturgical studies from ,the noted )Cantors Men- 4 e 1 e Shapiro and Schnipo- 'lisky. Cantor Tambor Cant or Tambor served the Washington Heights Cong. and Temple Beth El of Brooklyn, and was noted in New York for his many radio presentitions. In 1949 he was called , to the Beth El Con- gregation in Miami and in 1952 he was selected to be the soloist at the fourth anniversary cel- ebration of the State of Israel. For the past three years he had been affiliated with Cong. ,Ahavas Achim. He was awarded a citation by the Jewish Com- munity Council of Detroit for his performances on s e v era 1 . telecasts. Cantor Tambor is vice pres- ident of the Cantors Associa- tion of Detroit. He is married and has a son and daughter. His son, Milton, 20, is a senior at Wayne State University and is an instructor of Hebrew at the United Hebrew Schools. His daughter. Gloria. 16. is a junior at Mu m f or d High School. Israel Bond High Holy Day ap- peals will be set at the Israel Bond High Holy Day Religious Council meeting, next Wednes- day, 8 p.m., at Congregation Adas Shalom. The meeting will be attended by rabbis, congregational pres- idents and lay leaders.
