During the past eight years,
there has been a steady growth
in the enrollment in the United
Hebrew Schools. However, fa-
cilities and adequate teaching
staff are limited. In many cases,
parents who have registered
their children late have been
forced to wait a half year or
more before being able to en-
ter their children. It is ad-
visable for parents to register
their children as soon as pos-
sible, the UHS office advises.
To meet the graduation re-
quirements and Bar Mitzvah
regulations of the synagogue,
children who have now
r ea c h e d the age of eight
should be enrolled in -Hebrew
school. Bar Mitzvah prepara-
tion is a regular part of the
Hebrew school c our se for
which there are no extra fees.
Special classes for girls are
being offered in most branches
of the schools, in addition to
regular classes which are open
to both boys and girls. These
classes, conducted on a limited
basis, are designed especially to
prepare the girls for Jewish liv-
ing in the home. For informa-
tion regarding enrollment in
these classes, call DI. 1-3407.
Registration is al s o taking
place for the Sholem Aleichem
school, an affiliate of the United
Hebrew schools. The Sholem
Aleichem school is now housed
in the new building at 19350
Greenfield.
Registration also is taking
place for the Workmen's Circle
school, another UHS affiliate. A
new building for the Work-
men's Circle schools is expected
to be ready by fall. Enrollments
meantime are being taken at
18225 W. 7 Mile Road.
The transportation system
of the United Hebrew schools,
consisting of 23 buses and
three station w a g o n s, pro-
vides transportation for chil-
dren from all Jewish areas of
the city and the suburbs to
the closest Hebrew school -
