Harry D. Henshel, chairman of JWB's armed services division. The 192-page GI's "Baedeker" for the Jewish year 5719 will be distributed by Jewish chap- lains during Rosh Hashanah at services to be held at military posts and veterans hospitals in the U.S., and in 65 overseas lands. The Calendar-Diary informs the GI of recreational and hos- pitality opportunities at USO and USO-JWB clubs in 11 over- seas countries. It has, in addi- tion, a listing of 30 Jewish civi- lian centers in 10 countries, all members of the World Feder- ation of YMHAs and Jewish Community Centers, of which JWB is the American member. Dahomey Plans Trade Relations with Israel Direct JTA Teletype Wire to The Jewish News JERUSALEM (JTA) — As Israel's security situation im- proves, there will be a corres- ponding reduction of military government in the Arab areas of the country and its eventual abolition, according to a report published on the Arab minority Israel by the Israel Foreign Ministry. The report stated that there were 213,000 Arabs in Israel of whom 47,000 were listed as Christians and 31,000 as Druze, the remainder being Moslems. While the Druze are being called up for compulsory na- tional service, just as are mem- bers of the Jewish population, the Arabs serve only as volun- teers. The report stated that "as a result of past experience, Druze and Arabs may serve in all branches of the armed forces and services in any rank." It noted that there are more than 400 Druze and Arab officers in the Israel police force. The school attendance of Arab youngsters rose in ten years, the report disclosed, from 48 to 71 percent. Indemnification of Nazi Victim s to RP Completed by April, 1963 DUSSELDORF (JTA) — In- demnification of victims of Nazism will be completed by the State of Rhineland-West- phalia by April 1, 1963, it was announced by Minister of In- terior Duefhus, who declared that the staff in the indemni- fication Bureau will be in- creased so as to speed pend- ing applications. Officials in the Interior Min- istry said that, up to July 1, 585,000 indemnification claims have been filed in this state, giving Rhineland-Westphalia the highest number of such claims in the West German Republic. `Depend ' on USSR,' Envoy to Israel Tells Mapam LONDON (WJA) — Soviet Ambassador to Israel, Bodrov, told leaders of Mapam that "if Israel will depend on the USSR, its life will be guaran- teed forever," a Beirut broad- cast stated, adding that lead- ers of the Party had criti- cized the USSR for its atti- tude to events in the Middle East. JERUSALEM—The possibil- ity of trade relations between Israel and the French West African territory of Dahomey will come under study, the Da- homey Minister of Economic Affairs, D. R. Zinso, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency Tuesday. He said about 10 students from Dahomey will come to Israel to study modern agricul- tural methods developed here, irrigation and soil conservation. The West African official, who is a member of the French Senate representing overseas territories, is in Israel on a visit as guest of the govern- ment. He has had several dis- cussions with Pinhas Sapir, the Israel Minister of Com- merce and Industry. He said Dahomey could use Israel fer- tilizers, irrigation equipment and textiles and could provide Israel with palm oil. Erich von Ludendorff, German hero of the first World War and a strong supporter of Adolf Hitler's National Socialist Party, carries a sharp attack in its current issue on the West German reparations and indem- nification prograni, accusing the Jews of fraud and the German advocates of reparations, of bribery and corruption. The weekly, Die Volkswarte, is published in Paffenhofen, Upper Bavaria. The attack was contained in a separate insert, and is being widely distributed all over West Germany.
