In a ceremony held in conjunction with the closing of the
summer session of Beth Yehudah Schools, CHARLES E.
FEINBERG presents a sefer Torah to the Yeshivah in honor
of WOLF COHEN, president and veteran worker for the
institution. The presentation was made at Cong. Mogen Abra-
ham before the assembled student body. The history of the
scroll was traced by Feinberg, who is a noted collector and
authority on Americana and Judaica, back through Nazi-ravaged
Europe. The Sefer Torah was restored by Feinberg and he
presented it to the Yeshiva, where he felt it would be used
to best advantage. Shown, left to right, are Yeshivah treasurer,
MAYER WEINGARDEN, principal Rabbi JOSEPH ELIAS.
president Wolf Cohen, Feinberg, executive vice-president
Rabbi S. P. WOHLGELERNTER and MAX BIBER.

Joseph Looked Sharp
in a - Biblical -Chemise

A new illustrated volume of
biblical stories has been pub-
lished in Israel. The illustra-
tions are distinguished from all
previous "picture bibles" be-
cause the pictures • depicting
biblical life are authentic.
Material gathered under a
research project started in 1955
by the editors of this book in-
clude photgraphs of drawings
up to 4,000 years old and de-
picting the authentic dress,
characteristics and environment
of Pentateuchai figures.
They have discovered, for in-
stance, that the "coat of many
colors" given Joseph by his
father bears a striking resem-
blance to a present-day chemise
with colored embroidered
stitches down the sides and mid-
dle, rather than the multi-
colored pajama-striped robe us-
ually shown. The "chemise" in-
cidentally, was worn ankle-
length and sometimes sashes
with colored - diagonal stripes
were draped around the thighs.
Many other such pictures fill
the book, "Views of the Biblical
World," which will soon be
available in an English edition.
This first volume covers the
Pentateuch, w i t h subsequent
ones appearing later this year
on other biblical books. Thou-
sands of pictures were checked
through by Israeli experts in
various fields before the illus-
trations were chosen for this
volume. Included are photo-
graphs of pottery, war and farm
implements paintings, figurines
and other artifacts dating back
era.
