n THE DETROIT JEW ISH NEWS Friday, July Supplies, Religious Materials JWB Supplies for Alaska Servicemen Go With U.S. Forces to Lebanon, The naval task force of the U.S. Sixth Fleet that landed American marines in Lebanon carried supplies of kosher food and religious materials and literature furnished by the Na- tional Jewish Welfare Board, it was announced at JWB head- quarters in New York. The food supplies and religious materials are part of the stocks shipped by JWB to all Ameri- can naval vessels for use on the high seas during Rosh Hashanah. Since these High Holy Day supplies are now being used for this emergency they will have to be augmented later, JWB said. JWB is the government- authorized agency for serving the religious and welfare needs of Jewish personnel in the U.S. Armed Forces and is a member agency of USO. JWB reported that Chaplain Ma n f r e d Rechtschaffen, the only Jewish chaplain with American forces in the Medi- terranean, who is on duty with the Air Force at Ankara, Tur- key, has received an emergency shipment of Jewish religious materials and kosher food sup- plies. Chaplain Allan Blaine, on duty with the Army at Munich, from which point an airborne battle group of the 24th Infantry Division, was air- lifted to the Middle East, sent along with the Jewish men in the unit a large portion of his own Jewish religious and kosher food supplies. Chaplain Kalman Leviten at- tached to the headquarters of the U.S. Air Force in Wies- baden, Germany, is reported to be meeting troop carrier planes arriving from Donaldson Field in South Carolina. Ben Wolfson, USO - JWB worker in Naples, Italy, the homebase of the Sixth Fleet, is storing up supplies to meet extraordinary needs. Jewish personnel among the Marines who embarked from bases in North and South Caro- lina and Virginia to reinforce those already in Lebanon were also supplied with religious materials and kosher food sup- plies by Jewish chaplains in those areas. Neces- sities for the New Year ob- servance, as well as for all Jewish holidays and festivals, are shipped by JWB, some- times months in advance, to reach the far corners of the world where U.S. troops are on guard. rie7 .36 3 n !!"4 4 • • JEWISH NATIONAL FUND MORE GENEROUS MORE BORDER SETTLEMENTS ARE NEEDED MORE LAND MUST BE RE- CLAIMED AND DEVELOPED . • MORE TREES MUST BE PLANTED , MORE PEOPLE MUST BE ABSORBED BY THE LAND manix nvittf t • TO THE 17,4 mn Tintrir ► Rim Make YOUR CONTRIBUTION THIS TISHA "Yob Fair in Brussels BRUSSELS (JTA) — Israel President Yitzhak Ben-Zvi and 117 .369 .36 4 Mrs. Ben-Zvi continued their b' and busy round of official visits during their stay in Brussels row trlitz, 3 7 0 .36 5 and Antwerp. •` T shoo-rah They visited the International Exhibition, stopping at the Dutch pavilion where they received by Dutch offi- .111 Ty re !014tyt 7147.7 7-1 — were cials. Published by Brit Ivrit Ohunit for Bavarian Restitution MUNICH, (JTA) — The Ba- varian Indemnification Office completed action on 71,000 claims for compensation in less than two years between the time the Federal government adopt- ed its Indemnification Law and the fiscal year closed last March 31, the Association of Bavarian Jewish Communities reported. Heinz Meier, vice president of the Bavarian Indemnification Office, also reported that 116,- 900,000 marks were paid out to claimants in 1956 and 172,100,- 000 marks in 1957. He anticipated that the pro- vincial indemnification load could be cleared up by 1963. He made the point that 1963 could see the end of the indemnifi- cation processing program if recent procedural improvements were continued and extended throughout the Indemnification Office machinery.
