Mother's Borscht

Now in Reusable
Jumbo Decanter

A new king-size decanter of
borscht, reported to be the larg-
est ever marketed to consumers,
has been introduced this season
by Mothers' Food Products, Inc.
On retailers' shelves now, the
new jar measures 10 1/2 inches
high and holds over 13/4 quarts.
Designed in the style of a glass
"picnic jug," with metal carry-
ing handle and a new twist-off
cap, it is reusable and can read-
ily be transported to the beach
or on picnic outings — filled
either with the original borscht
contents, or with other liquid
refreshment.
According to Jesse C. Good-
win, president of Mother's, the
new item was developed in an-
swer to both retailer and con-
sumer requests to meet the
needs of the larger-size families
prevalent today. It is being mar-
keted in addition to the Mother's
one-quart decanter.
The increasing popularity and
consumption of borscht in this
country was cited by Bernard
Salamon, Mother's sales man-
ager, as another reason -for the
new "larger-quantity" market-
ing approach. "Borscht has been
gaining steadily in popularity—
not only as a delicious, ready-to-
serve, cold soup; but also as a
refreshing beverage," he said.
Among new serving ideas for
borscht are the following:
Pink Lady, mix borscht with
sour cream in blender. Serve
in chilled goblets; Borscht Julep,
serve in tall glasses garnished
with mint or lemon; Borscht a
la Mode, serve chilled borscht
with boiled potato and sliced
egg or cucumber, topped with
sour cream; "Red Devil" Cock-
tail, mix five parts chilled
borscht with one part vodka.
