In its early history, funds and expenses were raised from mem- bership dues and various social affairs. In 1926, the association became a Jewish Welfare Fed- eration agency. During 1955, 1956 and 1957, 827 loans totaling $259,424 were issued. The loans were made in more than 30 categories of need among which the most frequent were pressing doctor and hos- pital bills, dentist bills, home repairs, fuel requirements, aid to needy relatives, tuition and tax bills. Loans are approved by mem- bers of the board of directors in consultation with the admin- istrative staff and are granted up to a maximum of $500. Re- 2735 W.
