LONDON (WJA)-An index
containing details on more than
27,000 former inmates of the
Mauthausen and Gusen concen-
tration camps has been put at
the disposal of the International
Tracing Service of the Interna-
tional Red Cross Committee in
Arolsen by the General Sikorski
Historical Institute in London.
The attention of the Interna-
tional Tracing Service was
drawn to this documentation by
the World Jewish Congress In-
formation Department:.
About 12 per cent of the
names and 4,000 prisoner num-
bers of former Mauthausen in-
mates contained in these lists
had not previously been known
to the International Tracing
Service.

Hebrew University in Jerusa-
lem, was selected as consultant
because of his authorship of
several Hebrew books, includ-
ing volumes of verses in Hebrew
and several novels. The selec-
tions for this special issue had
to "forego even such a com-
manding figure as Bialik" be-
cause they were limited to the
young Hebrew poets in Israel,
and even "Prof. Halkin could
not be persuaded to include
any of his own poetry."
