men was first place winner in
Division II (50 to 149 members)
of The Detroit News club con-
test. A check for $250 was pre-
sented to the NCRW to aid - in

retarded children. The group
sent 150 retarded children to
the Detroit Department of
Parks and Recreation's camp at
Brighton, Mich. They have been
implementing this program for

Northwest Child Rescue
Women, a group of Jewish
women concerned with child
welfare activities, has been
awarded a citation by the Na-
tional Recreation Association
in recognition of service to the
community.
Presentation of the certifi-
cate was made recently by
Bernard B. Lasky, president of
the Department of Parks and
Recreation Commission, who
personally won the National
Recreation Association Award.
Accepting the citation was
Mrs. Joseph Gordon, NCRW
president, while participating
in the ceremonies were Mes-
dames Sam Bishop, Sam Kos-
sack and Max Wolf, officers of
the organization.
The certificate recognizes
the women's major activity of
sending retarded children to
Recreation Camp in Brighton
for the past six summers. Dur-
ing that period, the women
have contributed $18,000 to
finance camping for over 1,000
youngsters.
Selection of the children to
attend camp is made by the
Greater Detroit Parents Asso-
ciation for Retarded Children.
Perform Heart Surgery
on Animals in Israel

JERUSALEM. — Open heart
surgery has been tested on ani-
mals in Jerusalem's Rothschild
Hadassah University Hospital,
where a heart-lung machine has
been built and operated, offi-
cials reported Tuesday.
They said that in recent
weeks successful experiments in
such surgery has been carried
on in animals after construction
of an oxygenation section for
the machine at the Hadassah
Brandeis Vocational Center.
