Bnai Brith District Women Elect

trict office were Mrs. Morris
Tack, second vice-president, and
Mesdames Philip Fealk, Ber-
nard Bliefield and Samuel Gold,
who were named to the execu-
tive committee.
Heading Detroit's delegation
of 40 women was Mrs. David
Grosberg, newly-elected presi-
dent of the local Council. while
national officers who attended
from this city were Mrs. Charlec
Solovich, second vice-president;
Mrs. Leonard Sims, national
membership chairman; and Mrs.
Gerald Goldberg, a past District
president.
Mrs. Coggan, who has held
every conceivable position on
the local Bnai Brith scene, was
elevated to the presidency from
the District's first vice-presi-
dency.
In addition to being Council
president. Mrs. Coggan helped
organize and served as first
president of East Side Chapter
of 1942. Her work for the Dis-
trict has included chairman-
ships of many important com-
mittees, and, while serving as
chairman of the Hillel commit-
tee, she won the Lilyveld Honor
Key and Hill-el Keys from the
university of Michigan. and
Michigan State University.
In the general community,
Mrs. Coggan began work in civic
organizations back in 1934,
when she worked on the Com-
munity Chest drives, now the
Torch Fund.
In 1943, under auspices of the
Detroit Round Table of Cath-
olics, Jews and Protestants, she
was the first woman in Detroit
invited to assume a chairman-
ship to promote Brotherhood on
a city-wide level.
During the war years. Mrs.
Coggan served on the speaker's
bureau for the War Bond Drive,
on the USO executive commit-
tee and with the American Red
Cross, helping to establish the
local blood bank during World
War II.
For these efforts, she was
awarded a citation from Pres-
ident Harry S. Truman for "out-
standing serice in World War
II." She also holds an honorary
membership in the Detroit
Round Table's Women's Aux-
iliary, was named Michigan
Mother of the Year in 1953 and
was one of the 10 women of dis-
tinction in the city of Detroit
in 1949.
Her work has taken her into
virtually every sphere of corn-

munal endeavor, including her
activity at Temple Israel where
her family is a member. Cur-
rently, she serves on the board
of trustees and as chairman of
the religions school board. She
also is a past president of the
Temple Israel Sisterhood.
Widely known as a public
speaker. she is a member of the
newly-created Speaker's Bureau
of the Middle East Institute,
under auspices of the Jewish
Community Council, and has
been with the Speaker's Bureau
of Red Cross, Round Table and
Bonds for Israel.
Additionally, Mrs. Coggan has
served with the Mayor's Inter-
Racial Committee, the Gover-
nor's Commission on Sex Devi-
ates and was recording secre-
tary of the Women's Interna-
tional League for Peace and
Freedom.
An active clubwoman and
communal leader, Mrs. Coggan
also is a busy housewife and
the mother of two daughters_
She is married to Dr. Robert
A. Coggan, a local dentist.
Her daughters are Carolsue,
18. who will enter her junior
year at the University of Mich-
igan this September after grad-
uating from Stephens College,
Columbia, Mo., among the top
seven percent in her class; and
Nancy, 17, who graduated with
honors from Mumfdrd High
School and will enter her fresh-
man year at U. of M. this fall.

Elect Jack Caminker,
Louis E. Barden
BB District Governors

Detroit real estate man Jack
Caminker was elected to the
district board of governors of
the Bnai Brith District Grand
Lodge No. 6., at the district
convention held this week in St.
Paul, Minn. Louis E. Barden
also was elected to the board.
Caminker is a past-president
of Greater Detroit BB Council,
past-president of Henry Morgen-
thau Lodge and was a recent
member of the Jewish Commun-
ity Council nominating commit-
tee. He has also served as an
officer in various real estate
organizations.
According to Louis Weber,
president of Metropolitan De-
troit BB Council, the more than
100 Detroit members who at-
tended the convention partici-
pated in seminars on various
aspects of BB activities.
On July 14 there will be a
meeting of the newly-elected
presidents of the 26 lodges, rep-
resenting 9.000 members, of the
Metropolitan Detroit BB Coun-
cil.

The Happy Sewing Club of
BRANDEIS CHAPTER con-
cluded its season with a picnic
