STRATFORD, Ontario,—As in
previous years, scores upon
scores of Detroiters are being
attracted to the Shakespearean
Festival shows now in their
sixth annual
season.
The Jewish
community
was well re-
presented at
the shows dur-
ing the first
week, and
many hun-
dreds are ex-.
pected h e r
during the 12-,
week season.
The current
season started
Monday e v e
ning with the
first part of
"Henry IV."
The second
play on the
1958 program,
"Much Ado Miss Tanya
About Noth- Moiseiwitsch,
Mg," was staged Tuesday eve-
ning. The season's third play,
"The Winter's Tale," will com-
mence on July 21.
As in previous years, the
genius of Tanya Moiseiwitsch,
the brilliant designer, was in
evidence in "Henry IV." Miss
Moiseiwitsch is preparing the
designs also for "The Winter's
Tale."
Max Helpmann was Henry IV
in the long Shakespearean play
which is dominated by the Fal-
staff episodes.
Christopher Plummer stars in
Pill three plays, and Eileen Her-
lie is his able co-star in "Much
1do" and "Winter's Tale."
Very able casts have been
assembled for all plays and
Stratford justifiably remains the
summer gathering area for all
lovers of the best in the theater.
The music for "Much Ado"
was composed by Louis Apple-
baum, who has emerged as
one of the leading personali-

in "The Winter's Tale" at the
Festival Theater this summer.
Donald
Bell,
originally
scheduled to sing at this con-
cert, which will be repeated on
July - 26, has been released by
the Festival in order to play a
season at the Bayreuth Wag-
nerian Festival in Germany.
"King David" was premiered
in Switzerland in 1921 and im-
mediately established the young
Honegger as one of our most
important and original com-
posers. It preceded and set the
pattern for a later work "Joan
at the Stake", done with much
success this year in Toronto.
