Why More \

LOS ANGELES, (JTA)—The
President of Temple Beth Emet
became Bar Mitzvah.
Fred Fine reached the cus-
torriary 13th year 23 years ago
bereft of the usual Jewish edu-
cation needed for the ceremony
and did not have one.
Last July, when he became
president of his Temple, he be-
gan Hebrew studies and decided
he should have his Bar Mitzvah
like any other Jewish male. He
studied with Rabbi Aaron J.
Tofield and last week chanted
the prayers and the chapter of
the Prophets in the traditional
ceremony.
A group of friends headed by
Leslie Goldmann created the
Fred Fine Bar Mitzvah Fund
instead of the usual gifts given
the Bar Mitzvah. The money
will be used to advance Hebrew
education for congregants.
