Speaker at Center Annual Meeting
Outlines Responsibilities for Future

New responsibilities facing
the Jewish Center movement
"as it stands on the threshold
of a new era" were outlined at
the 25th annual meeting of the
Jewish Community Center last
week by Sanford Solender, di-
rector of the Jewish Welfare
Board's Jewish Center division.
He listed a number of chal-
lenges which must be met in
these changing times. Among
them were:
1. Recognition and expression
of the unique function of the
Center; 2. adaptation of Center
functions to changes in econo-
my, education and size of vari-
ous age groups, leisure time and
population movements to the
suburbs; 3. enrichment of the
quality of Jewish experience
both in individuals and groups;
4. advancement of participation
in public affairs; realization of
t h e Center's potential i n
strengthening family life; and
6. nourishment and refinement
of the Center's partnership with
other communal institutions.
The annual report of Jacob
Keidan, Center president, who
presided at the meeting, stated
that during the past year the
Center had concerned itself
mostly with four areas of ac-
tivity.
These are listed as 1. main-
tenance of current program; 2.
development of outdoor facili-
ties at the 10 Mile Branch; 3.
improvement of budgetary re-
lationships with United Com-
munity Services and the Jewish
Welfare Federation; and 4.
planning for the new Center
building on Curtis and Meyers.
Another report was given by
Irwin Shaw, Center executive
director, and Samuel H. Rubiner
