Social Problems, published at
Brandeis University, Waltham,
Mass., carries the article by Ju-
dith T. Shuval, UNESCO adviser
in social research at the Israel

search; entitled "Some Persist-
ent Effects of Trauma: Five
Years After the Nazi Concen-
tration Camps."
This article won the 1957
award for the best essay, being
given by a fund set up by Mrs.
Aaron DeRoy of Detroit.
Reactions to Israel by new
settlers are included in some of
the questions and answers con-
tained in this essay. Perceptions
of hostility and feelings of ex-
ploitation are explored.
Miss Shuval comes to the con-
clusion after thorough study
that "five years after liberation,
any distrust and perception of
hostility which were found
among concentration-camp sur-
vivors immediately after libera-
tion has disappeared."
