Jewish Educator Marks
35th, 45th Milestones

Two of America's dis-
tinguished men of letters, Mark
Van Doren, Pultizer Prize win-
ning poet and professor of
English at Columbia University,
and Maurice Samuel, well-
known author and lecturer, will
present a discussion series en-
titled "The Power of the
Word" on the "Words We Live
By" radio series during the
summer months.
The announcement was made
by Dr. Louis Finkelstein, chan-
cellor of The Jewish Theologi-
cal Seminary of America, which
conducts the program.
"Words We Live By," the
summer series of the award-
winning Eternal Light radio
program, will be broadcast on
ten consecutive Sundays, from
July 6 through Sept. 7, a coast-
to-coast NBC radio network. It
will be heard locally on radio
station WWJ.
Samuel and Prof. Van Doren
will select key words of the
Bible and compare the mean-
ings given them in Biblical and
general literature during their
sixth consecutive summer of
spontaneous and unrehearsed
dialogues.

showed, as usual, the Israeli
newsreel.
At first we saw a series of
new settlements being built in
the south of the' country. After-
wards we were shown the
President receiving a new Am-
bassador. Suddenly on the
screen there appeared large
letters: "New Bridge Over the
Yarkon Opened".
Immediately following this
large caption a picture of the
new bridge appeared on the
screen. The surprise was great.
I have not yet seen such a fine
large bridge in the country.
People who are used to seeing
gigantic • bridges abroad, will
not be surprised at all, but for
us it is an important achieve-
ment.
Only some months ago we
read every day in the press
about the great floods in the
south of the country. Soldiers
and policemen worked day and
night to extend aid to the
settlers. The bridges were weak
and the powerful flow of water
destroyed them. And now they
are constructing new, large
bridges in order to solve this
problem.
The bridge over the Yarkon
is constructed of concrete and
steel and is wide enough to
allow speedy and safe passage
of vehicles.
It is not London Bridge,
but .
