Mrs. Joseph M. Markel, 18678 Greenlawn Ave., past president
of Adas Shalom Sisterhood, now president of the Michigan
Branch-in-Training of the Central Branch of the National Wom-
en's League of the United Synagogue of America, is one of 30
newly-elected Regional Branch Presidents who will attend a
four-day conference June 2-5 at the Jewish Theological Seminary,
New York. Twenty-five national activity chairmen will meet
with the new branch presidents to outline organizational policy.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Schafer, of Flint, Mich., have just
returned from a two-week vacation in Miami Beach, Fla., where
they attended the convention of the National Association of
Tobacco Distributors. While there, they also visited with former
Detroiters. Mr. and Mrs. Jose Winsen.
A brunch honoring Miss Marilyn Wainer on her graJaation
from the Adas Shalom Sunday School was given by her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Jay Wainer, at the family home on Canterbury Dr.
The first confirmation class of Adas Shalom Synagogue
recently held a 10-year renion, at which the following members
were present: Lue Helfgott Maggin, Barbara Klein Cantor, Louise
Miller Bittker, Irene Dresser Sinclair, Beverly Franzblau Baker,
Anita Garber Lipton, Sandra Goldberg Mayer, Diane Hecker
Miller, Joan Karabelnick Davidson, Arlene Kollenberg Gottlieb,
Eunice Korman Ring, Sheryl LaPides Kasnow, Myra Stein Ketai,
Marcia. Topper Ainbinder, Karol Bloom Hershon, Cheryle Bloom
Leopold, Geraldine Glass Fidler, Beverly Harstein Miller and
Elaine Rothman Simon. Honored guests were Rabbi and Mrs.
Jacob E. Segal. Another gathering is planned shortly, at which
husbands will be included.
A reception honoring the Bar Mitzvah of Stephen Alan
Barnes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin J. Barnes, of 24201 Beverly,
Oak Park, will be held this evening, at Sammy's Avalon Room.
The ceremony was observed Friday night, at Temple Emanu-El.
Miss Natalie Cohn, 14-year-old piano pupil of Betty Kowal-
sky, will be presented in recital at 4 p.m., Sunday, at Baldwin
Recital Hall, Woodward at Ferry. She will play compositions by
Bach, Haydn, Schubert, Chopin, Debussy and Lecuona. Natalie
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney W. Cohn, of Kenosha
Ave., Oak Park.
Coming here from New York and New Jersey to join in
the Bar Mitzvah celebration of Jason Howard Bodzin, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bodzin, of Birwood Ave., are his grand-
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hyman Zuckerbraun, Mr.. and Mrs.
Sam Spektor, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Shapiro, Mr. and Mrs. Max
