Center Ensemble to Honor Kauder omen's /Lb activities In celebration of the 70th birthday of Hugo Kauder, a string ensemble, under the di• rection of Julius Chajes with Harvey Seigel as soloist, will feature Kauder's Violin Con- certo on June 8 at the Davison Jewish Center. It will mark the second De- troit performance of the work by Kauder, a native of Czecho• slovakia. who lived most of his life in Vienna. His compositions include four symphonies, six concertos, 17 string quartets and trios, quintets and various instrumen- tal and vocal works., He came to this country in 1939, and still teaches in New York City. Other compositions listed on the program are the first Ameri- can performance of Suite Fran- caise by the Swiss composer Julien-Francois Zbinden; Suite in modo antico (Four Fugues) by Julius Chajes and Adagio by Samuel Barber. The concert is presented by the Jewish Community Center in coperation with the Music Performance Trust Fund and the American Federation of Musicians. The public is invited to attend at no charge.
