PlanWelcoming Events
for Newly-Arrived
Rabbi Herman Deutch

The first in a series of events
designed to welcome to the
Detroit community Rabbi Her-
man Deutsch and his family will
be held on Monday, the second
day of Shavuot, in Young Israel
of Detroit, Dexter at Fullerton.
The rabbi will be honored
with participation in the holiday
services, and will deliver a dis-
course on "The Vissicitudes of
Torah," an illumination of pre-
sent-day Jewish problems."
Rabbi Deutsch, a native of
Hungary, achieved semichah at
the age of 19. Bearing a repu-
tation as a gifted student of the
Talmud, he became known as
the Sandre Rebbe, after the city
in Hungary which he served.
After his liberation following
World War II, Rabbi Deutsch
settled in Vienna, where he
reorganized the Orthodox
community and establishing a
Yeshivah. He stayed there until
1955, when a strong feeling of
anti-Semitism caused him to
leave for this country.
The rabbi, his wife and five
children arrived here in April.
The orthodox community is in-
vited ,to hear Rabbi Deutsch at
his first public appearance here.
The committee sponsoring the
program for Rabbi Deutsch in-
cludes Nathan Framowitz,
Morris Goldberg, Harry Green-
field, Louis Jonas and. M. Manuel
Merzon.
