ture hall, Mrs. Zemon said.
The new president was an
organizer and first president of
the Detroit Women's Chapter
of Brandeis University, a n d
served nationally as a secretary
and board member.
She also is a board member
of the United Community Serv-
ices women's committee, a past
chairman of the UCS tribute
fund and is currently chairman
of its speaker's bureau.
As founding chairman of the
Nurse's Aide Red Cross pro-
gram at Sinai, Mrs. Zemon has
given over 1,000 hours of vol-
unteer service as a nurses aide.
She is also a board member
of the Shapero School of Nurs-
ing, past board member of the
United Foundation women's or-
ganization, Serve Our Schools
Committee, National Council of
Jewish Women and Temple
Beth El Sisterhood.

In celebration of Mother's Day, Mrs. Richard Chajes, of
16190 Dexter, was honored at a luncheon given by the Central
Business District Association in the Book Casino of the Sheraton-
Cadillac Hotel. Honoring "Mothers of the World," Mrs. Chajes
was selected as Jewish Mother. Among the gifts she received
was the key to the•city from Mayor Louis C. Miriani. Mrs. Chajes,
the sister-in-law of local musician Julius Chajes, is the wife of
Dr. Richard Chajes, senior resident physician at Brent General
Hospital. Born in Warsaw, Mrs. Chajes resided in Israel for 14
years before coming to Detroit with her husband in 1954. The
couple has two daughters.
Alan E. Luckoff, president of the Junior Division of Jewish
Welfare Federation, and five Junior Division board members went
to the University of Michigan, Wednesday, to discuss Federation
and the Junior Division with graduating seniors. Walter Shapero,
Stephen Bromberg, Harvey and Clara Gordon and Sandra Slobin,
all University of Michigan graduates and members of the Junior
Division board, made up the Junior Division delegation. The meet-
ing was held at Hillel Foundation.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Myers, of Oak Park, Mich., are leaving
on an extended tour of Europe. They expect to be home by
mid-July.
Mrs. Leopold Rubinstein, of Salford, England, is visiting
here with her aunts, Mrs. Minnie Smith and Mrs. Sam Wolf,
of Taylor Ave. This being her first visit to the United States,
she has not seen her aunts and uncles, Messrs. Joseph and
Philip Lansky, for over 40 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert E. Galin, of 18485 Wisconsin, will be
at home to relatives and friends from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, in
honor of the pidyon haben of their grandson, Richard Alan
Schwartz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Schwartz, of Kansas City,

Betty Kowalsky and Jerome Stasson will present piano and
violin pupils in a recital at 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, at Baldwin
Recital Hall, Woodward at Ferry. The public is invited. -
Mrs. Esther Kazin, worthy matron of Detroit Link, Order of
the Golden Chain, and Martin Hollander, worthy patron,
have returned with 31 other members of the Detroit delegation
who attended the order's 30th convention in Atlantic 'City. The
Detroit Link received top prize for a skit which was presented
at one of the sessions, and was given another * prize as the link
which had the most attendance.
While last Sunday was celebrated by most Detroiters as
Mother's Day, it was marked by the family of Mr. and Mrs. David
A. Levine, of Sussex Ave., as their 40th wedding anniversary.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Levine are native Detroiters, she being the
former Zelda Keys (Schlussel), member of a long-time local
family. Mr. Levine is head of the Levine Waste Paper CO., estab-
lished here in 1873 by his father. The firm also has a plant in
Kalamazoo. Helping them to celebrate the occasion at a family
dinner Sunday night were their three children,. Herschel, Iris
and Seymour and their families, including seven grandchildren.

gle for survival but should be
aided in its total success.
