NEW YORK.—United States
exports to Israel amounted to
about $100,000,000 in 1957,
while Israel exports to the
United States amounted to $21,-
000,000, it was reported here
Tuesday, at the Israel Pavilion
at the U. S. World Trade Fair,
which formally opened Wednes-
day, at the New .York Coliseum.
The largest pavilion to be
erected by the Israel govern-
ment for display in the United
States, it is a counterpart of Is-
rael's 1958 participation in simi-
lar fairs in Johannesburg, Hel-
sinki, Poznan, Izmir and Mar-
seilles.
Covering 3,200 square feet on
the mezzanine floor of the Coli-
seum, the handsomely designed
pavilion is a showcase for a
multitude of products and pro-
duce of Israel.
Ten years of industrial prog-
ress and flourishing trade, along
with the dramatic panorama of
Israel's historical and cultural
background, is depicted through
a series of beautifully stained
plexiglass mosaic, integrated
sculpture, suspended glass show-
cases, colorful space modula-
tors, life-size photographs and
an array of Israel products.
The top honors for the design
of the pavilion were awarded
to Abba El-Hanani, an outstand-
ing Tel Aviv architect. El-Han-
ani was formerly a member of e
the faculty of architecture at
the Hebrew Technion in Haifa
and is the designer of a war
memorial f o r Independence
Park in Tel Aviv.
"A key purpose of the ex-
hibit," stated Nathan Raviv, Is-
rael trade commissioner in the
U.S., `.`is to acquaint the Ameri-
can public with the great vari-
ety and excellent quality of
Israel products exported to the
United States."
Raviv pointed out that Israel

U. S. and strikes a remarkable
parallel to the pioneering
growth that made this country
a leader in the world today. In
his opinion it was the vast im-
migrant populaces of both coun-
tries that contributed to the
phenomenal industrial growth
and supplied the overall culture
to both democratic nations.
Many of the products previ-
ously sold in the U. S., plus
many new products are dis-
played at the Israel Pavilion.
Cut diamonds, accounting for a
major share of Israel's exports
to the U. S., are shown along
with wines, home products, tex-
tiles and fashions (raincoats,
knitted wear, woolen coats,
blouses and sportswear), indus-
trial products (cement, fertiliz-
ers and chemicals), glass and
ceramics, foods and candies, and
jewelry and giftware.
El Al Airlines, which oper-
ates regular passenger and
freight service to New York and
other principal world cities, has
a major display in the pavilion.
Israel's largest shipping com-
pany, Zim Israel Navigation Co.
Ltd., also has a large, attractive
display.
