Official dedication of Beth
Abraham Synagogue will be fes-
tively celebrated with a week-
end program of events from
May 16 to 18, it was announced

this week by Harold Kukes and
Leonard Farber, co-chairmen of
the synagogue dedication com-
mittee.
Special religious, social and
eommunity-wide events are
scheduled, beginning with sab-
bath evening services on May
16.

Following the services, a ded-
ication lecture will be delivered
by Dr. Leon D. Stitskin, direc-
tor of community relations for
Yeshiva University in New
York. An oneg shabbat and tea
will conclude the evening.
A Dedication Sabbath Serv-
ice is planned also at 8:30 a.m.,
May 17, when Rabbi Israel I.
Halpern will deliver the dedi-
catory sermon.
Concluding the religious
events will be a special Syna-
gogue Family Dedication at 9
p.m., Saturday, when a youth
panel will discuss "Education
for Survival." Panelists will be
H a r old Eisenman, Hershel
Schlussel, S. Dorfman, Larry
Berkower and Larry Halpern.
A m'laveh malkeh buffet sup-
per will be served in the social
hall, during which the syna-
gogue choir, under the direction
of Israel Fuchs will present
a program of songs.
The main dedication event
will take place at 1:30 p.m.,
May 18, when the official sanc-
tification of the building as a
house of prayer, study and as-
sembly takes place.
Irving Schlussel will preside
during the ceremonies, at which
Rabbi Joseph Thumim, rabbi
emeritus, and Rabbi Halpern
speak. Cantor Shabtai Acker-
man and the choir will chant a
special cantata composed for
the occasion by Fuchs.
The weekend program will
conclude with a Dedication Ban-
quet starting at 6 p.m., that eve-
ning. Harold Kukes will be
toastmaster, and there will be
entertainment by Eli Mintz, pop-
ular radio and television star
who is noted for the role he
created as Uncle David in The
Goldbergs.

which the public is invited, are

Assisting Kukes and Farber
on the dedication committee are
Irving Schlussel, program;
Meyer Zolkower, journal; Sam-
uel Schreier, finance; Michael
Taffies, honors and memorials;
Philip Rosenzweig, arrange-
ments Leo Polk, tickets; Al Vin-
ocur, advertising; and Hy Crys-
tal, publicity.
Rabbi Halpern and Benjamin
Siegel, acting president of the
congregation also serve as com-
mittee members. All musical ar-
rangements are being made by
Israel Fuchs and Cantor Acker-
man.
The annual meeting of the
congregation will be held at 8
p.m., Sunday, in the synagogue,
when the nominating committee
will present its slate of officers
and board members.
Beth Abraham Junior
Services Changed
Beth Abraham synagogue and
the United Hebrew Schools an-
nounce the new rules for their
Joint Junior Congregation sab-
bath service, held weekly in
the synagogue.
The congregation will be
limited to boys and girls, 10 to
12 years of age, and will begin
at 10:30 a.m., each Saturday,
in the synagogue clubroom.
Kiddush will be served at 11:30
a.m., at the services' conclusion
and periodically, the Juniors
will be brought into the main
sanctuary to lead in the con-
gregation's closing songs and
A monthly birthday sabbath
is also planned, at which Rabbi
Israel Halpern will bless all
junior congregants celebrating
their birthday that month.
Services for five to nine year
olds will be held at the same
time, with prayers and stories
carefully supervised for t h e
children. They will join in the
Junior Congregation's kiddush.
Create Bar-Ilan Scholarship Fund
in Memory of Abraham Nusbaum
A scholarship fund honoring
the late Abraham Nusbaum has
been established by the Detroit
Committee for Bar-Ilan Uni-
versity, it was announced by
Phillip Stollman, chairman of
the national committee_ for the
university.
Stollman, one of the princi-
pal speakers at a memorial
meeting for Mr. Nusbaum,
held last week at Beth Abra-
ham Synagogue, paid tribute
to the late Detroiter's "devo-
tion to the Jewish state, to
Bar-Ilan University and every
worthy Jewish cause."
Mr. Nusbaum, a founder of
the Israeli school and chair-
man of the Detroit committee
at the time of his death, also
was eulogized by Dr. Samuel
L. Sar, dean of Yeshiva Uni-
versity; Rabbi Leizer Levin,
chairman of the Vaad Hara-
bonnim; and Benjamin Segal,
acting president of Beth Abra-
ham since Mr. Nusbaum's
death.
Over 500 Detroiters attended
the ceremonies, coming to pay
their final respects to one of
Detroit's most inspired work-
ers and admired leaders.
The services were directed
by Rabbi Israel I. Halpern,
with Cantor Shabtai Ackerman
and the Beth Abraham Choir,
directed by Israel Fuchs,
chanting the liturgical por-
tions.

be sent to the Detroit Com-
mittee for Bar-Ilan, 12238

Shay K. Ophir, who played
the lead in the recent NBC-TV
show of "Rumpelstilskin", will
star in another Shirley Temple

Attorney Liberson
William I. Liberson, an attor-
ney, has been elected by Beth
Aaron Synagogue to succeed
Phillip S. Chapnick as president.
The new head of the syna-
gogue, the youngest president in
Beth Aaron's history, had been
a vice-president, secretary, coun-
sel and chairman of the by-laws
and High Holiday seating com-
mittees.
Elected to serve with Liber-
son are Jacob Harris, Morris
Litvin and Joseph Braver, vice-
presidents; Max Kaminsky,
treasurer; and Morris Buch,
L. W. Friedman and J. Harmon
Moss, secretaries.
Chosen to serve on the con-
gregation's board of directors
are Sam I. Freedman, Jay I.
Grant, Joseph Lovy, Nathan
Lux, Sidney Noveck, Samuel
