What troubles us at this time of joyful celebration is the handful of Jews who apparently have forgotten the real reason for the establishment of the State of Israel. Certainly, Israel had been a Zionist dream for 60 years and certainly all Zionists may point pridefully to the contributions which were basic in the final establishment of a Jewish state. But, now, having taken in 900,000 Jews from devastated Europe, impoverished North Africa, terror-ridden Yemen and Iraq, it is not a Zionist state but a Jewish state—a country that questions neither politics nor ideology, but which insists that any Jew who feels the need may en- ter. That is what puzzles us about the attitude of the American Council for Judaism, an organi- zation which punishes Israel by its loud notoriety, which apolo- gizes for her acj..ons where no apologies are necessary, which attacks Zion instead of Zionists with whom it has its basic dif- ferences. While the Council has either never taken notice of the 900,- 000 Jews who now are able to live at peace with themselves and with the world in their newly-found Israel, or has for- gotten the self-sacrifice of a whole people to aid their breth- ren find new lives, it is certain that the Israelis, will never for- get the humanitarian principles on which their country was founded. Two of the "Flaming Youth" who will be seen in featured roles when South Oakland County Chapter of Hadassah presents its sixth annual pro- duction on May 3 and 4, in the Ford Auditorium, are Mrs. MURRAY SHUBIN• (left) and Mrs. SOL POKART. Here they are shown at a dress rehearsal wearing au- thentic costumes from the '20's, from which the script for the musical revue is taken. Tickets are available from Mrs. Phil Cherrin, LI. 6-6669.
