Suburban News Emanu-El Women to Host State Sisterhood Meet Arthur C. Becker in Race for City Clerk in Southfield City Arthur C. Becker, well known Detroit printer - who is associ- ated with his father, Harry Becker, in the Becker Printing Co. on 12th St., is in the race for City Clerk in Southfield, in the election on April 21. Active f o r several years i It advancing South field's youth sport s programs, Becker has shown a keen interest in the recreational Becker needs of the Southfield community. Born and raised in Michigan, Becker was a top athlete at Northern High School. He at- tended Detroit Institute of Technology where he excelled as track star and coach and equalled the 30-yard low hurdles world record. Before entering the army, in 1941, he also studied business administration and political science. He was wounded in action, received the Purple Heart three times, the Silver and Bronze Star, and five Battle Stars. He is active in Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Sisterhood of Temple Emanu-El, Oak Park, will be host to members of 14 sister- hoods comprising the Michigan State Federation of Temple Sisterhoods at a convention planned for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Headquarters for the conven- tion will be the new Emanu-El building at 14450 W. 10 Mile. The three-day parley will open with registration and a state board meeting, on Mon- day evening, with business ses- sions getting underway Tuesday morning at several "self-help" clinics. At the 12 noon luncheon session, Mrs. Irvin Hollobow, first vice-president of the Na- tional Federation of Temple Sisterhoods from Evanston, Ill., will be the principal speaker. The balance of the afternoon will be taken up with a work- shop on youth, conducted by Dr. Thomas S. Cohen, assistant pro- fessor of psychology at Wayne State University, president of the Michigan Association for Gifted Children and director of Camp Maplehurst. - The theme of the conference, "What Doth the Lord Require of Thee," will be the topic of Rabbi Eugene B.
