Israeli Gershon Hoffman Here
to Revitalize Hashomer Hatzair
Recently arrived in Detroit
from Israel to assume direction
of youth activities for Hasho-
mer Hatzair is Gershon Hoff-
man, a resident of Kibbutz
Shoval, a settlement near Beer-
sheba in the northern Negev.
In this country for only two
months, Hoffman is here under
arrangements made with the
Jewish Agency and on the as-
signment of his own kibbutz.
Hoffman, who is 34-years-old,
was born in Germany, and has
lived in Israel since the end of
World War II, when he left
the confines of Nazi concentra-
tion camps to begin a new life
in the Jewish state.
He served in the Palmach
during the Israel War of Inde-
pendence in 1948, and was
wounded in battle.
Although here as a repre-
sentative of the Jewish Agency,
Hoffman works closely with the
New York and local offices of
Americans for Progressive
Israel in reorganizing the De-
troit Hashomer Hatzair group.
The organization, which is
open to young people, 10 to 18,
