_Air Women's Division Prepares for
Annual General Solicitation G-Day

The general solicitation
branch of the Detroit Allied
Jewish Campaign Women's Di-
vision is busily engaged in final
plans for G-Day, to be held
Sunday, April 20, at Temple
Israel.
Workers in the 22 divisions
of general solicitation will meet
April 14, 15 and 16, to receive
their kits.

to Hold Games Party

Division chairmen will re-
ceive their instructions for con-
ducting the briefers' meetings
and will also receive the kits
for all their workers next Thurs-
day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the
Esther Berman Branch of the
United Hebrew Schools.
General solicitation asks
12,000 women for contributions
to the Allied Jewish Campaign
in their own names. An army of
over 1,600 workers has been
organized under the direction
of Mrs. I. Jerome Hauser to
visit these prospects. All the
solicitations are to be finished
by G-Day, at which time final
reports will be given.

Announce First Plans

for Local Festivities

In Detroit, plans for the cele-
bration of the Jewish state's an-
niversary are being formulated
by a community-wide commit-
tee, comprised of representa-
tives of the Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration, Jewish Community
Council and Zionist Council.
A call has been issued to all
Jewish youth to participate in
the major celebration, which
will be held April 27, in the
Ford Auditorium. All youth
groups will join for a special
program on May 18.
To date, plans for the major
celebration include an address
by Yochanan Meroz, counsellor
to the Israel Embassy in Wash-
ington, D. C., and a dramatic
pageant.
All communal organizations
are urged to reserve the date
April 27 on their program cal-
endars.

Still flushed with success
from performances as actresses
and dancers in the recent pro-
duction of "Knights and Daze,"
members of the Detroit Women
of Alpha Omega will this month
channel their efforts in another
direction.
The occasion will be the an-
nual donor luncheon, planned
for April 30, at the Sheraton
Cadillac Hotel, under the chair-
manship of Mrs. James Good-
friend.
Principal entertainment will
be a fashion show featuring
a complete travel wardrobe and
country club and evening
clothes. Many prizes a r e
planned by Mrs. Julius Barr,
chairman of gifts and decora-
tions, including a vacation for
two at the Concord Hotel, in
New York.
Working on the luncheon
committee are Mesdames Martin
Naimark, who will serve as
toastmistress; Nathan Gitlin,
who will deliver the invocation;
and Edwin Schneider and Leslie
Moss, who are co-chairmen of
tickets.
Auxiliary president, Mrs. Ger-
ald Michael, announces that
proceeds will provide dental
care for indigent patients in
Detroit, help to establish the
Hebrew University dental school
and support other local phi-
lanthropies.
A young group, Detroit
Women of Alpha Omega was
organized in 1946, mainly as a
social club assisting AO men
in entertaining at their national
conventions in Detroit.
In 1947, under the presidency
of Mrs. Henry Green, the AO
wives were officially established,
and sponsored their first donor
luncheon. It has continued as
a yearly function since that
time.

Music Study Choralers
Set Classical Concert

The choral group of the Music
Study Club will be featured in
"An Evening of Classical Favor-
ites" at 8:30 p.m., April 15, in
the lecture hall of the Detroit
Institute of Arts, announces
Mrs. A. Victor Bizer, chairman.
Under the direction of Dan
Frohman, fhe 25-voice choir will
present a varied program, in-
cluding "Russian Fantasy" by
Gaines, "Prelude to Eternity" by
Liszt, "Goodnight, Beloved" by
Pincutti and "Adama" by Froh,
man.
Guest appearances will be
made by violinist Paula Book-
stein and pianist Helen Mendel-
sohn. Mrs. Jack B. Mash, Study
Club president, will extend
greetings.
Admission to this first annual
concert is free. The entire com-
munity is invited to attend.

MISS RITA BURNSTEIN

Mr. and Mrs. Morris Burn-
stein, of Ardmore Ave., an-
nounce the engagement of their
daughter, Rita, to Joseph Sam-
uel Starikoff, son of Mrs. Sarah
Starikoff, of W. Buena Vista
Ave., and the late Mr. Albert
Starikoff.
The bridegroom-elect is cur-
rently attending the Detroit In-
stitute of Technology. A Feb.
15 wedding is being planned.

Mrs. Leon Labowitch, of
1750 Wellesley Dr., Inkster,
Mich., is acting as intermediary
in trying to locate a Mrs. Rosa
Ash, a Detroiter believed to
have been a singer, whose fam-
ily operates a factory here.
Mrs. Ash (nee Shiffman) is
being sought by Mrs. Anna
Shifman, of Hut 110B, Shikun
Asbestos, Beit Mazmil, Jerusa-
lem, Israel, her cousin. The Mrs.
Ash who is sought is the daugh-
ter of Mattes Shiffman who was
born in Pinsk.
Mrs. Ash also has a brother,
Berl Shiffman, who also is
thought to be a Detroit resident.

Puppet Theater to Repeat
Copland's "Billy the Kid"

Valter Poole will conduct the
Detroit Symphony Orchestra in
a repeat performance of Aaron
Copland's "Billy the Kid,"
staged by the Detroit Puppet
Theater, at 11 a.m., Saturday,
in Ford Auditorium.
The concert program will in-
clude Mendelssohn's overture
"Fingal's Cave," Tchaikovsky's
waltz from "Serenade f o r
Strings" and Hungarian March
from "The Damnation of Faust"
by Berlioz.
