M. Hirsch, of the Shoreland
Hotel, Chicago, Ill.

tended St. John Military Acad-
emy and the Wharton School of

A Passover Recipe
Right from Mother
The phrase "it tastes just like
mother's" has almost a magic
connotation. Mother was always
a great cook and whatever she
made tasted absolutely wonder-
ful.
When it comes to preparing
the traditional Passover dishes,
this phrase certainly has a lot
of meaning. Now available is
gefilte fish in a jar which is
really "like mother used to
make." It is appropriately
enough called Mother's Old
Fashioned Gefilte Fish, and is
made of the choicest whitefish,
seasoned just right and pre-
pared with that expert skill for
which all Mother's products are
noted.
Here is a special Passover re-
cipe for Planked Gefilte Fish
Loaf which we know will be a
delight at the Seder table:
1 2 lb. jar Mother's Gefilte Fish
1 small onion, minced
4 cup chopped celery
4 cup chopped parsley
tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
2 eggs
IZ cup potato starch
14 cup melted butter
14 cup liquid from jar
4 cups hot mashed potatoes
3. egg
salt and pepper to taste
2 lbs. fresh asparagus, cooked
4 large carrots, cut julienne
style and cooked
3 tomatoes, halved
parsley for garnish.
Drain the gefilte fish patties well
and mash. Chop the carrot from the
jar and add along with the other
vegetables. Beat the eggs slightly
and add along with the liquid and
potato starch. Blend thoroughly.
Pour into a well-greased loaf pan
x 412 x 3 inches in size. Bake 50
to 60 minutes at 350 degrees or
until golden brown. Cool in the pan
for 5 minutes; then turn out on a
large heat-proof platter.
Beat the egg into the mashed po-
tatoes and form a border around
the loaf, ornamenting with the tines
of a fork, and leaving spaces for'
the other vegetables. Arrange. the
carrot strips, tomato halves and as-
paragus in the spaces left for them.
Place the platter in the oven for
10 minutes at 375 to 400 degrees or
until the potatoes are slightly
browned and the vegetables are hot.
May be served with tomato sauce,
if desired. Serves 6.

A newspaper columnist in
Zinkoff's home town of Phila-

announcer style at the mike is
often more noteworthy than the
game on the floor." And those
who know the power of the
team he manages reply: "And
that's going some!"
