JDC Ships 300,000 Pounds
of Passover Foods to Needy

More than 300,000 pounds of
matzoth, matzoh meal, kosher
wine and other Passover sup-
plies have been purchased and
shipped to needy Jews in Eu-
rope by the Joint Distribution
Committee, it was announced
last week by Moses A. Leavitt,
JDC executive vice-chairman.
In addition, Polish Jews -
though they will receive none
of the matzoth-have been pro.*
vided with new oven machinery,
so that they may bake their
own holiday supply of the un-
leavened bread.
The JDC contribution to help
Polish Jews celebrate the 1958
Passover holidays, Leavitt said,
has been sent to a group of
Jewish bakers in Wroclaw, the
geographical center of the new
Jewish communities which
houses most of the 10,000 Jewish
repatriates recently arrived
from Russia. With the new bak-
ing equipment, the bakers,
working for the official bodies
of the Jewish community, will
now be able to supply the Mat-
zoth needed for all of Poland.
In addition, JDC will make
money grants to the Kehilloth
- the religious congregations
of the Jewish community-to
buy matzoth for distribution to
those who cannot pay for them.

year. An SAS delegation visited
Israel several months ago, but

Austria and Israel Sign
Expanded Trade Agreement
JERUSALEM (JTA) - The
Foreign Ministry announced the
signing of a trade agreement
between Israel and Austria pro-
viding for relaxation of some
customs and designed to ex-
pand commerce between the
two nations.
Israel imported from Austria
last year $1,300,000 worth of
goods, chiefly iron, timber, yarn
and tools. Israel sold Austria
$600,000 worth of goods, chiefly
