Radomer Groups to Hold Purim Party on Tuesday Barbara M. Levin's Now Is the Time to Begin Thinking Sharon Rose Berger tin Betrothal2Anounced of a Summer Camp for Your Child to Wed June 8 Friday, March 7, 1958—THE DETROIT 741 BARBARA MAXINE LEVIN At an informal reception in their Palmer Woods home, last Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Hoke Levin announced the engage. ment of their daughter, Bar- bara Maxine, to Ruben Berg- man. Miss Levin is a graduate of the University of Michigan. Mr. Bergman, formerly of Mt. Vernon, N. Y., is a graduate of Columbia University and the Harvard Business School. A June wedding is planned. Center Dance Courses Two Wednesday evening modern dance • courses for adults will begin March 19 at the Jewish Community Cen- ter's Davison branch. The course, which ends May 21, will be taught by Fannie Aronson. Dorothy Zussman is accompanist for the classes. The spring session will be the third of a popular series of modern dance classes held dur- ing the 1957-1958 season. With spring right around the corner, now is the time for parents to begin thinking seri- ously of whether they are going to send their youngsters to camp this summer. It is a fact that most young- sters who have been to camp once wish to return year after year. But what of the paren't who is facing the prospect of sending a child to camp for the first time? What should he look for in a 'camp? The American Camping As- sociation (ACA) lists several checkpoints for parents to learn about before selecting the camp for their boy or girl. They sug- gest, "It's your child. You have a right to be particular." General categories that should be checked ,the ACA manual states, are: 1. Will your child be safe? 2. Will he have health- ful living conditions? 3. What kinds of opportunities and ex- periences will he have? 4. What kind of leaders will you child have? 5. What is the general camp spirit (happy? do camp- ers wish to return?) and 6. What is the cost? In each of these categories there are important questions pertaining to safeguards from physical hazards, proper acci- dent prevention methods, eat• ing and sanitary facilities, med- ical attention, experience of counselors, etc. To select a camp, too, the parent must know his child, decide whether he is ready to be away from home, observe whether the youngster should be in a general camp or one which emphasizes any one of several areas (sports, dramat- ics, music, tutoring, religiously observant, etc.) Radomer Aid Society and its Ladies Auxiliary will jointly sponsor a Purim party at 8 p.m., Tuesday, in 'the Hayim . Green- berg Center, 19161 Schaefer. A bake sale is being planned by the Auxiliary on March 15 at the Detroit Edison Co.'s Northland Center branch. For information, call Mrs. Rose Tuttleman, LI 5-3957. As a general practice, the ACA recommends that the par- ent have an interview with the camp director; visit the camp, if possible; talk with children and their parents who have at- tended the camp; find out its objectives, about its equipment facilities and other equally im- portant facts. As for the leading recom- mendations of camping, the entertainment for bar mitzvahs our specialty ACA asserts that camp expe- rience offers the child happi- ness, responsibility, cooperation, comradeship, health, adventure, independence and good citizen- VE 5-6103 ship.
