Israel's 10th anniversary of
statehood.
Mrs. Alfred M. Carlin, of
Pittsburgh, national Chen chair-
man of the Women's Division,
presented the 1958 Sponsor Pins
at a luncheon preceding the
operalogue. The first pin was
awarded to Mrs. Max Stollman,
Detroit Chairman of the Na-
tional Sponsors. Mrs. Karlin
commended the group on show-:
ing their continued interest in
the upbuilding of Israel.
The operalogue, presented by
Carol Longone, featured opera
stars Elaine Bonazzi, Grant Gar-
nell, Maria Ferriero and James
Cosenza.

More than 50 women pur-
chased $1,000 Israel Bonds each
and thereby enrolled as 1958
National Sponsors, Feb. 20, at
the liome of Mrs. Henry Turkel,
2760 W. 7-Mile, where the oper-
alogue version of Bizet's "Car-
men" was enacted.
The affair marked the launch-
ing of the Detroit Women's Di-
vision 1958 campaign for Israel'
Bonds and the celebration of

Ex-Detroit Shoeman
Awards USC Grants

A fellowship for research in
\the field of health and physical
education has been awarded to
two students at the University
of Southern California, through
a grant given by Nathan Hack,
ex-Detroit shoe executive. The
students are doing special re-
search for Ph.D. degrees.
Hack, who retired from the
Detroit firm bearing his name;
moved to Santa Monica, Calif.,
in 1946. He developed the Rip-
ple Sole while doing research
work in the physical education
laboratories at USC.

BURG FAMILY CLUB will

Burt Rd., became the bride
of Howard Gordon LaKritz,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Max La-
Kritz, of Roselawn Ave., in a
ceremony Feb. 16, at Adas Sha-
lom Synagogue. Rabbi Jacob E.
Segal and Cantor Nicholas Fe-
nakel officiated.
The bride's gown was of silk
taffeta, and. ended in a cathe-
dral train. Chantilly lace, scat-
tered with seed pearls and se-
quins, trimmed the neckline of
the gown. Her silk illusion veil
was held in place by a double
crown of pearls and sequins,
and she carried an arrangement
of lilies on a white prayer book.
Mrs. Norman Weinberg was
matron of honor, and brides-
maids were Mrs. Arnold Kush-
mar, Mrs. Maynard Stone, Mrs.
Edwin Adelman and Marlene
Oshinsky, Davie Ann Elkis was
flower girl.
Jessie Hyman was the bride-
groom's best man, and ushers
included Norman Weinberg,
Eric Langer, Howard Boesky,
Harvey Lipsky and Arnold
Kushmar. Charles Weisman was
the ring bearer.
