Ask B-G to Intervene
in Salary Dispute

TEL AVIV (JTA)—The cen-
tral committee of the Israel
Medical Association has ap-
pealed to Prime Minister David
Ben-Gurion to intervene in the
salaried physicians' struggle
for better conditions. In a com-
munique issued here, the cen-
tral committee stated that its
request followed Kupat Holim's
refusal to discuss the salaries
of physicians in its clinics.
Suggestions to "correct grad-
ing anomalies among publicly
employed engineers" without
raising their basic salaries were
presented to the Histadrut cen-
tral committee. The proposals
were submitted by Simha
Blass, head of the Histadrut's
professional employes depart-
ment. He advocated a tax re-
duction for publicly employed
engineers as well as an in-
crease of the tax free mini-
mum.
Achdut Avodah and Mapam
were pressing for a general
wage rise, while Mapai repre-
sentatives in Histadrut favor
Blass' plan.

Through the use of invest-

State of Israel Bonds, which
expand every facet of her

has strengthened her trade

of the free world. Israel re-
cently entered into a part-

memorate the inauguration
of the shipping company,
Ghana this week announced
the issuance of a set of
stamps in the following col-
ors and denominations:
green, 21/2 - pence; blue, 1
shilling, threepence; and lav-

above is the 5-shilling stamp,
which depicts a modern cargo
vessel, together with a flying
fish within a shield topped
by a black star. The stamps
were printed in Israel and

Soviet Jews Seek Books,
Scrolls from Israel Rabbis

JERUSALEM, (JTA) — The
Chief Rabbinate of Israel an-
nounced that it has received
numerous requests from the So-
viet Union for prayer books and
Torah scrolls. Among the most
recent requests received by
Askenazi Chief Rabbi Isaac Her-
zog was one from a rabbi in a
Soviet Asian city who wanted a
Sephardic prayer book.
Chief Rabbi Herzog indicated
that the prayer book recently
published in Moscow is not ac-
ceptable to the Sephardic Jews
in the Soviet Union since it fol-
lows the Ashkenazi tradition
usually used by Jews in East-
