Israel Bond 'Operaloque' at
Mrs. Turkel's Home, Feb. 20

Translation of Hebrew column on
Left. Published by Brit Ivrit Olamit.

A few days ago I walked in
one of the main streets of
Jerusalem, in Ben Y e h u d a
Street, and a middle-aged Jew
came up to me. He asked me
in Hebrew for some address.
From the -manner of his speech
it was possible to recognize
that a new immigrant stood
before me. I began to talk to
him and in the course of our
conversation the man told me
about his country of origin and
about everything that had hap-
pened to him until he came to
Israel. His Hebrew, it is true,
was not fluent, but he could
express everything he wanted
to say.
Among other things he told
me that he was a lawyer by
profession and was preparing
himself for examinations as he
wished to work at law here
too.
