of similar stature, and that
when people "see the top lead-
ers going to Catholicism they
think that Catholicism "must be
better than anything else in the
world to attract these great
people." He added: 'If we could
get one Roman .Catholic to con-
vert to Judaism, we could ac-
complish more in one night than
all the moaning that is going
on."
Dr. Gordis stated in his pro-
posal for the conversion of Japa-
nese to Judaism:
"Not only is there a great
deal of interest in Judaism
among the Japanese, but such
a campaign would not en-
, countek the difficulties that
might arise in a country in
which Christianity is domi-
nant.
"At the present time there
are large numbers of Japa-
nese who are not merely in-
terested in the Bible, but in
Judaism as a religion for
themselves. Many of them
have asked to be accepted in
the Jewish fold."
A similar missionary move-
ment in the United States should
be limited for the time being
to an educational and informa-
tional program, Dr. Gordis says.
"The time is long overdue .. .

ism to all men and women who
may be interested, w i t h out

In his article Dr. Gordis -calls
for a conference of national
Jewish religious organizations
and rabbinic leaders to analyze
all aspects of a possible mis-
sionary program.
