Synagogue, Churches
Combine Talents for
Brotherhood Concert

A concert to be given at Adas
Shalom Synagogue for the
March of Dimes this Monday
evening not only will strike a
blow against the "crippler
polio," it also will give cred-
ence to the meaning of Brother-
hood.
In addition to the Adas
Shalom Symphony Ensemble
which will be featured, there
also will appear the choirs of
the Mayflower Congregational
Church under Dr. John H.
Secrist and the All Saints Epis-
copal Church, directed by Ian
H. Thomson.
The concert will be held at
8:30 p.m., in the social hall of
the synagogue. The slogan of
the three groups: "Let's All
March Together in the March
of Dimes."
This is the second year of
the Brotherhood concert and
March of Dimes benefit.
The idea of the program was
eonceived by Herman Raskin,
,a member of the Adas Shalom
.Symphony, who is concert
ehairman. At the first concert,
over $1,000 was raised for the
:;March of Dimes.
Zinovi Bistritzky, assistant
concertmaster of the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra, is con-
ductor of the Adas Shalom
Symphony.
Included will be Schubert's
:5th Symphony, Mozart's En
Seraglio, Bach's Little Fugue,
He Is Watching over Israel
,from Elijah by Mendelssohn
and Great and Marvelous Are
His Works by Gaul.
The public is invited to at-
tend the concert.

Beth Aaron USY
to Conduct Services

Beth Aaron Chapter of the
United Synagogue Youth will
hold its second annual late Fri-
day evening service at 8:30 p.m.,
Jan. 24, in the synagogue.
The entire service will be
conducted by USY members, in-
cluding the rituals, readings and
sermonettes.
Participants will be Gary
Moss, president, Jerry Rose,
Sanford Sulkes, Irving Wainer,
Billy Sklar, Richard Panush,
Helaine Sabol, Paul Freeman,
Michael Saywitz, Carol Seskin,
Sherry Reznick and Sandra
Stearn.
Following services, an oneg
shabbat will be presented in the
social hall. Sidney Noveck,
chairman of the synagogue's
youth commission, will preside.
The service is being planned
and prepared under the guid-
ance of Rabbi Benjamin H.
Gorrelick.

NW Young Israel Sets
Judaism Symposium

Young Israel of Northwest
Detroit will offer as part of its
adult education program a sym-
posium on Judaism at 8:30 p.m.,
Tuesday, in the synagogue.
Partitcipants in the program
will be Jerome W. Keiman, Ira
G. Kaufman and Charles L.
Goldstein, The three men, each
attorneys, will represent the
Orthodox, Conservative and Re-
form points of view, respec-
tively.
Dr. Leo Y. Goldman, rabbi of
the host congregation, will serve
as moderator. After the presen-
tation of each view, there will
be a question and answer period.
A social hour will follow.
The Bible is literature, not
-The. public. , is invited to

The annual seminar of the
teaching staffs of all Congrega-
tional schools in Detroit will be
held Sunday, Feb. 2, at Congre-
gation Emanu-El, Oak Park, it
is announced by Bernard Pa-
nush, chairman of the Directors'
Council of the Jewish Religious
Schools of Detroit.
Allen Warsen, school director
of Adas Shalom, was flat -lied
conference chairman. Mrs. Al-
len Bernstein of Temple Beth
El is co-chairman.
Warsen stated that this year's
6onference will discuss "The
Impact of ISrael Upon the Con-
temporary Jewish Scene." Dr.
Jacob Raphael, of New York,
consultant to the New York
Federation of Reform Syna-

gogues, was invited to be the
luncheon speaker.
The luncheon will be followed
by workshops and the workshop
presentations will be made by:
Mildred Sabath for the early
elementary grades; Abe Gorn-
bein, elementary grades; Thom-
as Tannis, intermediate grades;
Maxwell Nadis, Senior grades.
Rabbi Milton Rosenbaum of
Congregation Ethan u-El will
greet the Seminar. The Emanu-
El junior choir will render
musical selections. Walter Far-
ber will lead the Birkath.
There will be a display • of
Israeli material, prepared under
the direction of Mrs. Burns of
the Ahavas Achim School. S.
