Rabbi Meisels to Visit Here; Plan Reception

Honor Yeshivah
Pupils at Siyum

A siyum hagodol, celebrating
the completion of all five books
of the Torah by 78 students
of the Yeshivath Beth Yehudah
and its Beth Jacob School for
Girls, will be held at 9 p.m.,
Wednesday, in the Yeshivah
building on Dexter.
This is the largest class ever
to complete the course, which
is taught over a period of sev-
eral years. The students studied
the Torah, along with the com-
mentaries, primarily Rashi, ac-
cording to Rabbi Joseph Elias,
principal.
The program, under the spon-
sorship of the Parent Teachers
Association of the Beth Yehu-
dah Schools, will feature the
presentation of awards to out-
'standing students and a medley
of songs by the Yeshivah Choir.

Guest speakers will be two
alumni of the schools, Dr..
Charles Levi, a physician, and
Saul Blumenfeld, now a stu-
dent at the University of De-
troit dental school.
Mrs. Israel Rockove, PTA
president, advises that a com-
mittee from the organization
will be in charge of serving
of refreshments. Rabbi Eric
Greenbaum, the evening's chair-
man, invites the public to at-
tend.

Memorial Club Head

George A. Agree was in-
stalled as president of the
Isaac Agree Memorial Society
at its 36th annual Hanukah ban-
quet, held at the Mayfair Room.
Other officers installed were
• Robert Canvasser, vice presi-
dent; -Marvin Stearn, secretary,
and Harry Kifferstein, treas-
urer.
Irving Katz acted as install-
ing officer.
Allan G. Agree, received a
special honor award from Nor-
ton Rosin, outgoing president,
for his services in editing the
Downtown Synagogue yearbook,
and raising funds for the syna-
gogue which the society spon-
sors.
Aaron Rosenberg, Yiddish
humorist and local attorney,
provided the entertainment at
the banquet.
At the same time, the Rachel
Agree Memorial Society in-
stalled the following officers:
Florence Geller, president;
Rose Meskin, vice president;
Marian Canvasser and Ruth
Zatkin, secretaries; and Margie
Hack, treasurer.
Nathan Agree is honorary
president of the society. The
board of directors consists of
Charles N. Agree, Allan G.
Agree, Morris Canvasser, and
Max Kaplan.

Cantor Jacob E. Tambor, of
Cong. Ahavas Achim, will be
featured entertainer at the an-
nual concert of the synagogue's
Men's Club at 8 p.m., Jan. 12,
in the main sanctuary, 19190
Schaefer.
Other outstanding local art-
ists who will appear on the pro-
gram are Cantor Hyman J. Ad-
ler, of Cong. Bnai David; Can-
totr Jacob H. Sonenklar, of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek; violinist
David Czeisler, and Dan Froh-
man, accompanist.
The. concert will feature Yid-
dish folk songs, Hebrew liturgi-
cal music, modern Israeli tunes
and classical numbers.
