Detroiters will remember better

with such notables as Frank
Faye and Blossom Seely. He
was a folk singer, billed as the
Bard of the Byways.
Although he has been away
from Detroit for over 20 years,
he still keeps in touch with the
community through his sister,
Hattie Gittleman; his brothers,
Albert, Morton and Hyman Git-
tleman, and a niece, Mrs. Sam-
uel B. Danto.
A former member of the Tr-
Square Club which met in the
old Hannah Schloss Building, ,
Aubrey graduated from Michi-
gan State College and later be-
came a star with the Keith
vaudeville circuit, touring in
this country and many foreign
lands.
In addition to his work at the
San Francisco Press Club, Au-
brey also has a radio program,
for which he continues the songs
and patter which made him fa-
mous years ago.
For his many years in show
business, Aubrey, a former na-
tional board m em ber of the
American Guild of Variety Art-
ists, was given an AGVA senior
membership card at the testi-
monial.
He also received a .scrapbook
containing stories and pictures
of the many people he had en-
tertained in San Francisco,
among them President Eisen-
hower, former Presidents Tru-
man and Hoover, Adlai Steven-
von, Sygman Rhee, Carlos Rom-
ulus, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby,
Eddie Cantor, Danny Kaye and
a host of others.
The final award was the tra-
ditional "black cat," given to
each of the .Press Club's famous
visitors who are entertained
there. The cat is a miniature
statue of the club's famous mas-
cot' which perished in a fire
