Pioneer Women's Annual Donor
Event Nets $55,000 for Israel
A total of $55,000 was raised
by the Pioneer , Women's Coun-
cil for the projects of the
Working Women's Movement in
Israel, it was announced at the
annual donor event's celebra-
tion at Ford Auditorium, Sun-
day evening.
The event's guest speaker,
David S. Tesher, Israel's Consul
General at Chicago, outlined
Israel's achievements in the
last 10 years and spoke of the
plans for the integration of
more newcomers in the , land
and the expansion of the coun-
try's industries during the sec-
ond decade.
Tesher also addressed a group
of local leaders at a brunch at
the Davison Jewish Center,
Sunday noon. Speaking under
the auspices of the Zionist and
Community Councils, under the
chairmanship of Morris Lieber-
man, he reviewed the problems
faced by Israel and especially
exposed the fallacies inherent
in the attacks on Israel on the
score of the refugee issue.
He said that only the resettle-
ment of the refugees in Arab
countries, where they will live
among •kinsmen, in an area
where their faith is practiced
and their language spoken, could
the problem truly be liquidated.
Tesher expressed ,the hope
that Israel's population will
reach the three million mark
in 1966.
During his stay here, he ap-
peared on TV and radio pro-
grams- and was welcomed to
Michigan by Governor G. Men-
nen Williams, at, a conference
in Lansing on Monday after-
noon.
