WHILE VISITING Detroit to participate in the local Israel
Bond campaign, Capt. Victoria Nasim, Assistant Superintend.
ent of Israel's Police Ministry, who heads her country's penal
institutions, visited the Detroit House of Correction. In bottom

Foreign Minister, taken at an Israel Bond dinner last year.
TOP PHOTO, taken in front of the Administration Build-

.

A large and appreciative
audience, attending the Detroit
Friends of Music concert, at
the Morris Schaver Auditorium,
Tuesday evening, gave an ova-
tion to the talented young
Mexican Jewish pianist, Jose
Kahan.
Kahan, a native of Mexico
City, displayed remarkable
talent and was called upon for
encores.
He was especially effective in
the modern selections, and his
interpretation of Kabalewski's
Sonata No. 3 was outstanding.
Kahan's future is most prom-
ising, judging by hi,, Detroit
performance. He has poise, his
technique is pleasing and there
is no doubt about his knowl-
edge of music and his mastery
at the piano once he begins
playing, whether it is a diffi-
cult classical number or a more
popular selection.
Guest here for a week of the
Morris Schavers, Kahan was
welcomed by the Mexican com-
munity and the Mexican Con-
sulate entertained him here.
The next concert of the De-
troit Friends of Music has been
postponed to Jan. 22. It will
feature Gordon Staples, violin-
ist, and Paul Olefsky, cellist.
