Wayne State Students Music Study Club Artist Concert
Announce Betrothal to Feature Pianist Ruth Meckler

Ruth Meckler, 20-year old
concert pianist, will be guest
artist at the Music ,Study Club
Annual Artist Concert, set for
8:30 p.m., Dec. 1, in the Detroit
Institute of Arts.
Miss Meckler, winner of the
1957 Grinnell scholarship, is a
student at Curtis Institute in
Philadelphia, where she is un-
der the guidance of Rudolf
Serkin and Mieczyslaw Horszow-
ski.

her musical education until the
young pianist was 10. She then
began studies with the late
Edward Bredshall.
The Music Study Club award-
ed her a series of summer
scholarships which enabled her
to attend Indian Hill Music
Workshop in the Berkshires,
where she studied with Sey-
mour Lipkin, prominent con-
vert pianist from Detroit.
Throughout her high school
years, she was taught by Mischa
Kottler. She was awarded a

ary, which is composed of
wives of Jewish physicians, in-
clude medical scholarships in
Israel, sponsorship of a clinical
research laboratory and serv-
icing disabled veterans in
Israel, Mrs. Pensler said.

MISS RUTH MECKLER

Curtis scholarship after grad-
uating from Mumford High
School here.
Miss Meckler was recipient of
the Ossip Gabrilowitsch scholar-
ship when she was 10 years of
age. At 11, she placed first in
the adult division of the Chopin
Commemorative Contest here.
At 15, she was national runner-
up in the Federations of Music
Clubs' Stillman-Kelly auditions.
The Music Study Club also
awarded her with the Gwladys
Luloff Award, in 1952. The
young pianist has appeared as
soloist with the Detroit, South
Oakland County and Kalamazoo
Symphony Orchestras.
