Detroiters to Host
YPL Regional Parley

Detroit members of the
Young Peoples League will be
host to the second Tri-State
convention of YPL, to be held
here from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1.
A feature of the 'convention
will be a dance, scheduled for
Nov. 30, in the social hall of
__ Cong. Shaarey Zedek. Other
convention sessions will be held
at Shaarey Zedek and Beth
Aaron Synagogues.
Besides representatives from
Michigan, delegates will come
here from Ohio and Indiana to
attend the three-day sessions.

Special services of Thanks-
giving are planned by several
Communal congregations on
Wednesday evening, preceding
Thanksgiving Day. .
The 56th annual Interde-
nominational Community
Thanksgiving Service will be
held at 8 p.m., Wednesday, at
St. John's Evangelical and Re-
formed Church, Russell and
Gratiot.
The service, founded in 1902
by the late Dr. Leo M. Frank-
lin, of Temple Beth El, is one
of the oldest union Thanks-
giving services in America.

Bnai Moshe PTA
to Discuss Curriculum

The Bnai Moshe Parent
Teachers Organization, of the
United Hebrew Schools, will
dedicate a Dec. 3 meeting to
curriculum, announces Mrs.
Mary Young, president.
Speaker of the evening will
be Albert Elazar, superinten-
dent of the United Hebrew
Schools. Mrs. Bertha Goldman
will display Hanukah bulletins
prepared by the school arts
and crafts department.
Morris Lachover, principal,
will report on activities of the
school.
Shimon Gewirtz, of the music
department, will render musi-
cal selections.

El and Temple Emanu-El will
all participate.
Guest preacher will be Dr.
Philip Sarles, pastor of May-
flower Congregational Church.
His sermon topic is "The Har-
vest of the Lord."
Other sponsors besides the
three Reform Jewish congre-
gations are Bushnell Congre-
gational Church, First Congre-
gational Church, Mayflower
Congregational Church, North
Congregational Church, North-
west Unitarian-Univ ersalist
Church and the Unitarian-

A Thanksgiving Eve Service
for members of Adas Shalom
Synagogue is planned for 8:30
p.m., Wednesday, with Rabbi
Jacob E. Segal officiating and
delivering a brief sermon and
Cantor Nicholas Fenakel chant-
ing the service.

Directly following the serv-
ice, the congregation will meet
in the social hall, where a one-
hour concert by Adas Shalom's
symphonic ensemble, conducted
by Zinovi Bistritsky, will be
presented. The community is
invited.

Educators Planning
Teachers Conference

The Directors Council of the
Religious - Schools of Metropoli-
tan Detroit has scheduled its
annual Teachers Conference for
Feb. 2, at Temple Emanu-El, it
was announced this week by
Bernard Panush, Council chair-
man.
Panush also announced the
appointment of Allen Warsen,
director of the Adas Shalom
School, as chairman of the sem-
inar committee, with Mrs. A.
Burnstein, of Temple Beth El
as co-chairman.
The theme of the seminar
will be "The Impact of Israel on
the Contemporary Jewish
Scene." Over 200 local educa-
tors are expected to attend.
The Council is comprised of
directors of all religious schools
in the area, regardless of orien-
tation, with a combined regis-
tration of over 7,000 children.
The Council seeks to raise the
educational level of teaching, to
coordinate administrative and
educational projects and to
spread the knowledge of Jewish
education to the community.

Beth Aaron Youth
to Host Conference

The Midwest Region of the
National Young - People's
League, will begin its annual
conference at a Friday Evening
Service at 8:30 p.m., Nov. 29,
in the Beth Aaron Synagogue.
The Beth Aaron Y.P.L. Chapter
will act as conference host.
Rabbi Benjamin H. Gorrelick
will conduct the service and
Cantor Ihil Gildin will chant
the ritual: Rabbi Milton Arm of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek will be
guest speaker.
Delegates from congregations
in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and
Ontario, Can., will represent
their chapters at the service.
Following the service an oneg
shabbat program and social
hour will be featured. in the
Social Hall. Admission to the
service and oneg shabbat is free
and open, to all young people
in the community.
