The Mexican Consulate in De-

Mexican pianist, Jose Kahan, in
a recital here, Tuesday night.
The recital is
one of a series
presented by
the Detroit
Friends of
Music, and
will take place
in the Morris
L. Schaver
Xuditorium,

Kahan, born
in Mexico
City, showed
Kahan
extraordinary talent since early
childhood. He studied with
Pablo Castellanos, and in 1947
won two contests with subse-
quent scholarships to the Juil-
liard School of Music in New
York and the Curtis Institute
of Music in Philadelphia.
In 1955 he made a successful
debut in New York, and the
following year marked. his first
European- tour. Both press and
public acclaimed the young art-
ist in France, England, Holland,
Belgium and Spain.
Kahan, who will be making
his debut in Detroit, comes
here directly from New York,
where he made his second .ap-
pearance in Town Hall. He has
appeared with the Los Angeles
Philharmonic Orchestra a n d
the National Symphony Orches-
tra of Washington.
