JERUSALEM. — A Foreign
Office spokesman Wednesday
described as "utterely" fantas-
tic the Syrian charges of secret
Jordan-Israel talks on the Arab
refugee problem, adding that
the Israel government "knows
nothing about such negotia-
tions."
The spokesman described the
official attitude of the Israel
government toward the Arab
charges as one of considering
the accusations as part of cold
war tactics directed by the So-
viets and intended to keep up

'tensions in the Middle East.

He said the government be-
lieves the goal of the effort was
to bring Jordan into the camp
of pro-Soviet Arab states head-
ed by Egypt and Syria.
The spokesman said that anti-
Jordan radio propaganda from
Cairo and Damascus was moni-
tored in Jerusalem and together
with Jordanian anti-Israel pro-
paganda attacks was re-broad-
cast by Israel on its Arabic
transmission facilities "to prove
that Egypt and Syria have no
monopoly of anti-Israel feel-
ing."

Detroiter's Death
Recalls Early
Family History

Mose Blumberg, a native De-
troiter whose grandmother
came here from Germany at
the age of 5, died on Nov. 8.
He had resided at 13725 Dexter.
Born in 1887, Mr. Blumberg
had attended the old Bishop
School on Winder and Hastings,
and was a student at the Beau-
bien and Division Talmud To-
rah, the first such institution
in Detroit.
Recalling those early days
in Detroit, Mr. Blumberg's
brother, Samuel Blumberg, said
they used to attend classes four
hours a day, from 4 p.m. to 8
p.m., with intermission for din-
ner, which was served by the
Daughters of Zion; a volunteer
society.
He also recalled when he and
his brother used to sell papers,
and said they sold the - Extra"
editions when President McKin-
ley was assassinated.
Mr. Blumberg's grandmother,
Bertha Joseph Selinski, came
here prior to the Civil War,
and was a student at the Bar-
stow School, the first public
school in Detroit.
Her brother, Julius Joseph,
served in the Civil War, and
was wounded in the knee in
combat.
The Blumberg brothers used
to tell a story about their
mother and a group of immi-
grants they took to Lupton,
Mich. Now, Sam Blumberg tells
the story alone.
The story was that Harry and
Sarah Selinski Blumberg took a
group of 20 immigrant families
to Lupton to settle on the land.
They were to clear 80 acres and
then stay there and settle on
part of the land.
The bank failed, however,
and Mr. Lupton, after whom
the town was named, was ready
to let them remain there —
stranded and broke and with
no opportunity to earn a living.
Then Sarah Blumberg, seeing
the plight of the families and
her own family as well, took a
shotgun and demanded the fare
for all of them back to Detroit.
She got it!
Services for Mose Blumberg
were held at Ira Kaufman
Chapel. Besides. brother,
