Dec. 1 Banquet to Culminate
BB Centennial Celebration

Two events are planned in
the coming week to set the
stage for the major feature of
Michigan Bnai Brith's 100th an-
niversary celebration, the Cen-
tennial Banquet on Dec. 1, at
the Sheraton-Cadillac Hotel.
Planned is an open meeting
by Pisgah Lodge, the first Bnai
Brith organization in the state,
to be held at 8:30 p.m., Monday,
at the Hayim Greenberg Cen-
ter, 19161 Schaefer.
The second event is the ob-
servance of Centennial Sabbath,
which will be co-sponsored by
Pisgah Lodge and the Greater
Detroit Bnai Brith Council at
8:30 p.m., Nov. 22, at Temple
Beth El.
Principal speaker at the ban-
quet will be David A. Croll, the
first Jewish member of the Can-
adian Senate. Sen. Croll is well
known to Detroiters. He for-
merly served as Mayor of Wind-
sor.
The program Monday will be
devoted to a birthday celebra-
tion by Pisgah members and
their families. Greetings will be
extended by Dr. Morton J.
Sobel, Michigan director of the
Anti- Defamation League; Rabbi
Max Kapustin, director, Wayne
State University Hillel Foun-
dation; and Earl Yaillen, Michi-
gan director of the Bnai Brith
Youth Organization.
Following their brief mess-
ages, a social will follow, in-
cluding entertainment and re-
freshments.
Temple Beth El was chosen
for the sabbath program be-
cause the early histories of both
Pisgah Lodge and Temple Beth
El are closely entwined.
It was on Nov. 24, 1857 that
Pisgah was founded, and its
organizers were a group of men
who seven years earlier had
organized Temple Beth El.
The officers of both the lodge
and the temple were the same
for many years after.
"It is no more than fitting,"
stated Jack Leeds, president of
Pisgah, "that the religious serv-
ice • of the centennial celebra-
tion be held in the house of
