A banquet honoring Rabbi
Leo Y. Goldman on his gradu-
ation as a doctor of education
from Wayne State University
has been planned for Nov. 24,
in the Mayfair Room.
Guest speakers at the dinner
will be Dr: Clarence B. Hilberry,
president of Wayne State Uni-
versity, and Rabbi Chaim U.
Lipschitz, vice-president of the
Rabbinical Alliance of America.
David J. Cohen will be master
of ceremonies at the program,
which will begin with a cocktail
hour at 6 p.m.
Louis Berry is . dinner chair-
man, and Louis Rose is chair-
man of arrangements. Also on
the dinner committee are Max
Bonin, secretary, Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Alper, Mr. and Mrs. Sam
Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Julius

Rabbi Lipschitz, the evening's
principal speaker, was born in
Jerusalem, where he was edu-
cated and later ordained in 1935.
A graduate of Dropsie College,
he has served with the Ameri-
can Consul General in Israel and
as secretary of the Joint Ortho-
dox Chaplaincy Board in the
U.S.

evening with a joint board-

chaired by David J. Cohen,
board chairman.
Rep. John D. Dingell, U.S.
Congressman from Michigan,
was guest speaker at the gath-

featured.
Dedication services are to be
performed by Rabbi Leizer
Levin. Refreshments will fol-
low.
Parents of present enrollees,
in addition to those considering
the Academy for their children,
and all other friends and sup-
porters of Torah education are
invited to attend.

Guest speaker will be Mrs.
Leon Bader, of New York City,
for many years national vice-
president in charge of guardian-
ship.
Mrs. Bader will report on
ORT operations she has
observed in 19 European
countries.
The program will feature a
dramatic skit, "An Idea is
Born", to be presented by ORT
members.
This evening the annual ORT
Sabbath will be observed in 11
Detroit congregations, among
hundreds of others throughout
the country.
ORT members will join their
co-religionists in prayers of
thanksgiving for the rehabilita-
tion of persecuted and impov-
erished Jews thtough vocational
training.
Egypt Urges Assassination
of Jordan's King Hussein
ROME (AJP)-The govern-
ment-controlled Egyptian news-
paper, Al Shaab, a copy of
which reached this city, came
out with a plea to Palestinian
Arab refugees to assassinate
King Hussein and his imme-
diate family as his grandfather,
King Abdullah, had been assas-
sinated in July, 1951, by a
Palestinian extremist in the
heart of Jerusalem.

Set Joint Service
A special Thanksgiving sab-
bath service is being planned
for 8:15 p.m., Nov. 29, under
joint sponsorship of Beth Abra-
ham Synagogue and the De-
troit-Windsor Council of Bnai
Brith Young Adults.
Rabbi Israel I. Halpern will
deliver a special Thanksgiving
address. The services will be
led by BBYA members, under
the chairmanship of Eugene
Kowalsky.
The formal installation of
new Council officers will follow
the services, and an oneg shab-
bat with discussion and re-
freshments will conclude the
evening.
The entire community is be-
ing invited to attend.

Stephen Wise Award
The American Jewish Con-
gress' 1956 Stephen Wise Award
for outstanding service to the
welfare of Jews in all lands was
last presented Monday evening
to ORT, the Organization for
Rehabilitation through Training,
at a ceremony held at the Ste-
phen Wise Congress House,
New York.
The award-a bronze plaque
and a check for $1,000 - was
presented by Dr. Israel Gold-
stein, AJ Congress president, to
Dr. William Haber, president
of the American ORT Federa-
tion in recognition of ORT's
activities in "providing Jews
throughout- the world with the
skills for their economic reha-
bilitation and independence."
In accepting the award, Dr.
Haber announced that the prize
fund would be used to establish
scholarships in ORT vocational
schools overseas.
