• Authors Ehud Ben Yehuda, Chayim Grade to Spark Jewish Book Fair Programs Ehud Ben Yehuda, noted pioneer in modern Hebrew, and Chayim Grade, distinguished Yiddish author and lecturer, will combine to highlight Yiddish-Hebrew Night, of the Jewish Book Fair on Nov. 24. The Sunday evening audience will hear Ben Yehuda talk in Hebrew on "Hebrew and Its Culture: A Spiritual Bridge be- tween Israel and the Diaspora." In addition, the renowned lexi- cographer will be among the speakers at Men's Night, Nov. 25, and a participant in the Ladies' Day program that after- noon Grade, speaking in Yiddish, will round out Sunday evening's Yiddish - Hebrew program with a discussion in Yiddish of "Present Problems in Yiddish Literature." Ben Yehuda, the son of Eliezer Ben Yehuda, is re- nowned for his part in con- tinuing his father's monumental work, the compilation of the Hebrew Thesaurus and Dic- tionary. Born in Jerusalem in 1897, Ben Yehuda was one of first Jewish children of Palestirfe to speak Hebrew as his mother tongue, his father having first introduced Hebrew in 1880 as the everyday language in the Jewish Palestinian colonies. Grade, currently a writer for The Day-Morning Journal, has published books of poetry and prose, among them "The Mus- sarists," "Generations," "Over- grown Paths," "Refugees," and "The Light of Extinguished Stars." He received the Bimko prizes for his book "My Mother's Will," and the LaMed prize for "My Mother's Sabbath Days." Born in Wilna in 1910, Grade is an authority on the young writers of Wilna and their con- tributions to Yiddish literature. Chairman for Yiddish-Hebrew Night will be Louis LaMed. Bernard Isaacs will introduce Ben Yehuda; and Saul Maltz will introduce Grade. During his stay in Detroit, Ben Yehuda also will speak to the Kvutzah Ivrit.
