Sucher, a co-founder and chairman of the board of the Speedway Petroleum Corp., died. early Tuesday morning in Sinai Hospital, after a brief ill- ness. One of five brothers, Mr. Sucher came to Detroit from Austria in his early teens, to be joined - - shortly after by his brother, C. William, now the president of the Speedway Co. The two Sucher brothers opened a hay and feed- store and later a coal yard. With the coming of the automobile, they opened an independent gas sta- tion in connection- ,with the coal yard. From this first station has grown the largest independent gasoline company in the world, with a total of over 800 stations. Mr. Sucher, who lived at Echo Valley Farms, 27225 W. 10 Mile, Birmingham, was considered a great sportsman. He had a sta- ble of horses which he entered in horse shows and owned a herd of prize-winning Black Angus steers. He was active in numerous community projects, and was a member of Adas Shalom Syna- gogue. Besides his brother, he leaves his wife, Helen; two sons, Ger- ald J. and Donald S. - two daugh- ters, Mrs. Bernard ' M. Cohen and Mrs. Martin M. Bader; and 12 grandchildren.
