He will be
spiritual lead-
er of the fifth
largest Jewish Rabbi
Cyperstein
community in
the world. According to a 1956
census by the Statistical Bureau
of the United Nations. Argen-
tina's Jewish population ex-
seeds 360,000.

The appointment of THEO-
DORE COMET as director of
the youth department of the
American Zionist Council is an-
nounced by Rabbi Irving Miller,
Council chairman. Established
three years ago, the Youth De-
partment of the Council founded
the Student Zionist Organiza-
tion, which has chapters on 80
college campuses throughout the
country. The new director has
experience as a group worker
in settlement houses, and was
in France for two years super-
vising rehabilitation of Jewish
war orphans for the Joint Dis-
tribution Committee. He was
formerly executive director of
the Brooklyn Zionist Youth
Commission, and in that ca-
pacity spent some time in Israel.
He replaces David Macarov,
who is leaving for Jerusalem
with his family on Jan. 2 to
take up duties with the youth
department of the World Zion-
ist Organization. •

A native of Chicago, Dr. Golb
did graduate work at both Johns

Jewish studies at Hebrew Uni-
versity in Jerusalem.

Rabbi SOLOMON J. SHARF-
MAN, of Brooklyn, N.Y., presi-
dent of the Rabbinical Council,
left on a trip that will take him
to U. S. Air Force Installations
in England, France, Germany
and North Africa. He is making
-this trip in behalf of the Air
Force to conduct Torah reli-
gious convocations at various in-
stallations in these countries.
As a representative of the en-
tire Jewish community, Rabbi
Sharfman will meet with the
commanding officers, chaplains
and Jewish personnel of the Air
Force in Europe and North
Africa. During his trip, Rabbi
Sharfman will confer with ortho-
dox leaders in all these coun-
tries with the view of develop-
ing closer ties between the Jew-
ish communities in Western Eu-
rope and North Africa and the
orthodox Jewish community in
this country.

DR. MARGARET MEAD,
noted anthropologist, author
and lecturer, will receive the
1957 "Woman Of The Year"
award at the fifth annual lunch-
eon of the Women's Division,
American Friends of the He-
brew University on Tuesday
afternoon, in the Waldorf As-
toria Hotel. Dr. Mead, a profes-
sor at Columbia University, will
receive an illuminated scroll
which will be inserted in a spe-
cially designed copy of the Bi-
blical "Book of Ruth." The vol-
ume was illustrated by the late
Arthur Szyk. Dr. Mead is cited
for "her dedicated research and
great ability to provide a new
and frank approach to the
mores and culture of our chang-
ing society." Sen. Clifford P.
Case. of New Jersey, will de-
liver the main address:

VER, of Tennessee, and N.Y.
State Assemblyman STANLEY
STEINGUT, of Brooklyn, will
receive awards at the Yeshiva
University Charter Day Cele-
bration, Nov. 17 at the Wal-
dorf-Astoria Hotel, in New York
City. Senator Kefauver will be
the recipient of the university's
annual Charter Day Award for
"distinguished public service
and devotion to the liberal tra-
dition"; Assemblyman Steingut
will be presented with the Lay-
men's Award for his "outstand-
ing leadership in communal
activities."

36-ARVIN L. DILLER has
been appointed national director
of Brandeis University_ Clubs.
Diller will assume his new post
immediately, acting as coordin-
ator for the Brandeis Clubs from
Maine to California, and repre-
senting the university to them.
Founded when the university
opened ten years ago, the Bran-
deis Clubs are composed of
friends of the university who
act as foster alumni, serving in
the same capacity as alumni
groups of older universities.
Diller previously served with
the Community Chest in Detroit.
