Hospital officials said there was
no brain injury.
Police said Douek told them
he had stolen the grenade from
a soldier. They disclosed that
Douek had suffered head inju-
ries several years ago and had
been unbalanced since then.
Earlier, it was reported that
he had been in a mental insti-
tution and had tried to set fire
to a bed in Beilinson Hospital
when he was a patient there.
Police grabbed Douek min-
utes after the grenade exploded
and rushed him out of the
Knesset and away from enraged

visitors intent on lynching him.
The projectile bounced off
the speaker's rostrum and rolled
under the Cabinet Table, which
absorbed much of the power of
the blast, probably saving the
lives of the assembled ministers.
President Ben-Zvi inspected
the Knesset after debate was
resumed on foreign policy at
the point where the explosion
had interrupted it. The Presi-
dent congratulated the minis-
ters who escaped injury. He
previously had visited the hos-
pital to express his best wishes
to Mrs. Meir, Mr. Ben-Gurion
and Mr. Carmel.

10,000 Repatriates in
`Miserable Condition'

(Direct JTA Teletype Wire

TEL AVIV—Most of the 10,-
000 repatriate Russian Jews who
have arrived in 'Poland are in
"miserable condition," Charles
Jordan, European director of
the Joint Distribution Commit-
tee said here Tuesday at a press
conference.
He said JDC had undertaken
the task of looking after thou-
sands of the repatriates, particu-
larly in providing medical care
and education wich they have
lacked for a long time.
He said the aid would depart
from usual JDC patterns, to
work through local committees
for social help together with
the Central Cultural Committee
of Polish Jewry.
An additional 20,000 Russian
repatriates were expected very
soon, he reported, adding that
while the Polish government ex-
tended help to the returnees,
such help was inadequate and
additional aid would have to be
provided.
